More weapons, more bullets, more soldiers, more dead bad guys

Canadian soldier Pte Chris Kezar from November Company 7th platoon of the NATO-led coalition rests after heavy fighting against insurgents in the Taliban stronghold of Zhari district in Kandahar province, southern Afghanistan, March 20, 2009. (REUTERS/Stefano Rellandini) Bad people are killing innocent people all the time and the world seems to just sit by and do S.F.A.  What makes it worse is loony left liberal idiots who think that all you need is love and dialogue.  The thing is that bad people and murdering dogs don’t respond to love or dialogue.

In this latest attack in Baghdad somewhere around 132 people have been killed by two seperate car bombs.  All that Barack Obama can do is ‘pledge his support’.  These attacks prompted the world’s lamest response from the British Foreign Secretary David Miliband.  He said ’such acts of terrorism can have no justification, and must be condemned without reservation’. BMQ Instructors

Anyone who’s been on BMQ (that’s basic training for Canada’s military) will almost certainly tell you they had problems with certain instructors. I know I definitely did.

No names obviously because that’s not professional but he weird thing is by the end of the course I ended up greatly respecting those instructors I had problems with.

For instance… during a classroom lesson I volunteered to go down and fill up the huge water can for everyone. I had to go to a different than normal water source because a Corporal told me the one we’d been using wasn’t drinkable water. So off I went. Once I got back to the classroom, everyone was waiting outside on a break saying I was in trouble. Turns out I’d left my C7 rifle beside my chair during the lesson and didn’t take it with me. I naturally assumed that buddy next to me would look out for me because I was doing something for everyone else. So when the class went on a break and buddy didn’t pick up my rifle the instructor took it. The remedial training I received was that Read more...

The necessity of any armed force

I was having a little bit of a discussion with a friend yesterday about my decision to join the Canadian Forces. The lady I was talking to said she supported my decision but does not like the army.

She went into a rant in greater detail and explained that she hates the way young people often are victims in armed conflict and that war is profitable to major corporations.

I tried to be neutral and explain that whenever there’s an armed conflict and soldiers are sent into battle – they don’t go into a battle for profit; at least a Canadian soldier’s primary motivation into going into battle isn’t to get rich. I told her that Canadian soldiers serve and stand on the front line or stand on a wall to protect her and the rest of Canada’s population while they sleep, and that there’s a need for us to do that.

I also told her about the bumper sticker I saw that reads ‘If you don’t support our troops, feel free to stand in front of them’. Interesting caption huh?

News on the military ‘n myself

Pte Kyle Whitehead, 3PPCLI The last two months have been very eventful… and after 23 years of dreaming I finally made it happen. A slight incident cut it short officially by only two days but I’m making that up at the end of December on a weekend.  After that I’m hoping to get on my artillery course, all driving courses, and especially communications courses so I can get on those badass radios and do radio stuff.

Whilst on BMQ (L)… I experienced the awesomeness of IMP (individual meal packs) which are issued to the Canadian Forces.  Call me ridiculous but I loved them.  That may be that I was deprived of home comforts whilst in the field… nevertheless I now fully believe all my instructors when they say that out of all the western military powers in Afghanistan, we have by far the best meals.  Apparently the Yanks and British soldiers will always try to trade meal parts.  The bread in a packet rocks!  If you’re interested… you can actually buy IMPs from a surplus store.

I’m also glad that I did not join the British Army.  Not because of any perceived lack of dashing bravery, ruthlessness or competence… but because of the mere factor that our (Brits) squaddies bomb around Afghanistan in rag top Land Rovers, and their armour plates only cover their heart and not other vital organs.

Being a Canadian soldier I now have a lot of restrictions on what I can or cannot post on my website regarding the Canadian Forces particularly… so you might see the tone of my blog posts change somewhat.

One of our boys has passed away… Pte Kyle Whitehead from 3PPCLI passed away when his vehicle rolled on the Big River First Nation. What’s really uncanny is that his best friend ‘Sgt. Darby Morin’ from the same First Nation in Saskatchewan – passed away on the same day in Afghanistan whilst serving with the U.S Army.

According to this news story… the upcoming Olympics is pushing the Canadian Forces to the edge.  This article says that 4000 Canadian soldiers will be guarding the Olympics to protect all the heads of state.  That along with the Afghanistan mission and the upcoming G8 summit in Huntsville is testing the limits of our endurance according to this story.  My answer to that would be to quote one of my instructors on basic training… ‘We’re Canadian soldiers – we win!’.  I know one thing that would solve problems like this…  boosting Canada’s defence budget from $18billion to about $36billion to increase the size of our armed forces.

Yellowknife gets a new Canadian Forces Reserve unit

Amidst all the international nonsense going on with many nations  falsely claiming sovereignty over Canadian waters and undersea mineral/oil rights…  I’m quite pleased to find out the Canadian Forces have announced the creation of a new military unit in Yellowknife.

According to this story from CBC

The unit is part of the federal government’s initiative “to increase the defence presence in the North, as part of the government’s strategy for Arctic defence,” said Lt.-Col. Lyle Herod, who hosted an open house in the city on Tuesday night.

For anyone who reads international news and concentrated in Geography in school, they’ll know there’s a region called the ‘Northwest Passage’ which is basically all the water ways between the islands that are in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.

Not surprisingly the Americans (along with the European Union) think it’s an international route giving them the right to invade Canada’s territory.

So basically this Reserve Unit is to enforce Canada’s territorial assertions.  The phrase ‘use it or lose it’ is pretty relevant.  The Canadian Rangers will probably end up being paired with the Unit whenever they are out on patrol but obviously won’t partake in combat if that need ever arises.

Yayyyy for military expansion!

Military stuff

As the time draws near, just a few days away, my interest in the military seems to be increasing. The American war machine claims to be the most efficient in the world, certainly the most funded… but they can’t seem to train their soldiers to stop sexual harassment or assault on its female personnel. There’s a story on BBC News which details female American soldiers carrying a knife to defend themselves against members of their own platoon.  My first thought was that the movie ‘The General’s Daughter‘ was fiction and that sort of thing didn’t happen in real life. It’s disgusting that the upper echelons in the U.S military damn well know this goes on but do diddly about it.

On another note… the Canadian Defence Minister  Peter Mackay sent me a letter a couple of weeks late regarding my application to join the Canadian Forces.  Would have been nice had it arrived in a timely fashion.  He also said recently in Parliament that Canada’s Federal Government wouldn’t accept any Cyclone MH-92 helicopters that were ordered for the Canadian Forces unless they have the ability to fly if the main gearbox loses oil pressure.  I think I’m going to volunteer for the Conservatives campaign next election.

Politics, murder, and military

This story about Israel committing murder and human rights abuses in Gaza shouldn’t surprise anyone.  It’s frequently documented by B’tselem that the Israeli war machine has scant regard for international law when it comes to the Palestinians.  These are accounts coming directly from Israeli soldiers – one account tells of a sniper killing a mother and two children at close range whom troops had told to leave their home.  In another cited case, a commander ordered troops to kill an elderly woman walking on a road, even though she was easily identifiable and clearly not a threat. No doubt some pro-Israel people would try and lambast the BBC for anti-semitic or biased news reporting – I’d love to see how.

On another subject… you have to give the French their respect.  BY FRENCH I MEAN PEOPLE FROM FRANCE… NOT YOU WANNABE PUNKS FROM QUEBEC.  According to French police 1.2million people have taken to the streets in a nationwide strike against France’s economic policies.  It’s funny because the French would strike and protest in such large numbers at the drop of a hat… but in countries such as Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, United States of America etc, you’d need a war, or a terrorist attack for that many people to come together.  The French government is afraid of it’s people – and not the French people afraid of the government.  That’s exactly how it should be.

According to Lt-General Andrew Leslie (head of Canada’s land forces) the Canadian military will need a one year break once the mission in Afghanistan ends.  It’s quite obvious Canada’s military is overstretched and underfunded.  That is a huge part of why I resent the general attitude of most Canadians towards everything military.  In both of the world wars Canada kicked ass seriously and I would be speaking German right now if it wasn’t for Canada.  So what’s with the wimpish ‘let’s talk about it’ attitude instead of ‘let’s get rid of some murdering bad people’?

Anyways… Defence Minister McKay just announced $16.7M for new accommodations at CFB Gagetown.  One of the good things about CBC News is they allow comments on their news stories.  On this particular one you have a load of whiney punks waffling on about wasting tax payers money.  I realise people have the right to voice their opinion, but when they’re looney left liberal twats who make no effort to understand the necessity, reasons and motivations behind having a military and keeping it up to standard – I honestly don’t think they should be allowed to voice their opinion.  Bear in mind these are people who stand on a soap box without taking the time to study and understand.

Waiting to hear

I still haven’t heard from Canadian Forces Recruiting Group – I think they’re doing the background checks right now.  I just wish there was a way to speed it up without getting lax on the security controls.

Alberta’s military bases are getting a $40million upgrade which is splendid!  Aside from creating 200 jobs, CFB Edmonton is getting $21million for housing a training site.  CFB Wainwright is getting a water plant upgrade, and CFB Cold Lake is getting  upgrades to its infrastructure.  Harper says there’s going to be $400million of upgrades this year.  That remains to be seen – although I’m skeptical.  Even though Conservatives are traditionally pro-military, Canadian Conservatives are traditionally marginally less anti-military than most Canadians.

Horlicks, diesel, and the Army

I had a cup of Horlicks today for the first time in about ten to fifteen years.  It didn’t taste as great as it did when I was a nipper so I’m going to make another cup later.  The taste brought back a shitload of memories though.

A while back the petrol station clerk at Shell told me that instead of using those engine additives that you can get for $6 a bottle, just get 25¢ of diesel and pour it in your gas tank.  He said he’s told many people, and only about one percent of people believe him.  I took the risk a while back and didn’t regret it at all.  Before I took that risk, I asked Chris at the Toyota garage and he instantly said that it was good – diesel burns cleaner than petroleum.  So every three or four tanks of gas I dump in 25¢ of diesel and it keeps my engine running splendidly.

I applied to join the Canadian Forces Army Reserve… but I’m quite certain I’m going to join the Regular Infantry – 2PPCLI based at CFB Shilo.  It’ll suck big time being away from my children, but it’ll be a steady paycheck, a job which I can’t get fired from… but most importantly the example I wish to set for my children is that being willing to stand up and fight for what’s right, metaphorically or literally is something to be proud of and to be strived for.  I’m excited and afraid all at the same time.

Canada’s military getting the shaft

Even though I’m not yet a voter… I was very pleased when the Conservatives came to power for one reason only – their defence procurement was thought to go sky high.

The Prime Minister’s promises of asserting Canada’s sovereignty in the Arctic was a splendid idea.  I’m not against the government spending lots of my taxes on Canada’s military.  I’ve always been of the opinion that Canada needs to add in the very least Read more...
