Gordon Brown is a twat. A spineless jellyfish. I realise that his problem is common for most politicians, but it particularly bothers me in Gordy. One reason is he simply doesn’t have the charisma or charm needed to make people stand up and pay attention. He never has had that skill and public perception is hugely important for a politician.
In this recent news story about Lt Colonel Rupert Thorneloe – the most senior British officer to die in Afghanistan – it says Lt Col Thorneloe wasn’t happy about the amount of trips British troops are taking on the ground in Afghanistan. Some memos by him were published in the Daily Mail in which he warned about the increasing danger to British troops and the shortage of helicopters fit for ferrying troops around. Read more...
I have to now rescind all bad things I called France for their contributions to Afghanistan.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy has formally announced that the French military is going to send a battalion of troops to Afghanistan – one of the eastern provinces mostly likely. That way the Yanks will be able to send troops south to help the Canadian troops kick ass. Poland has stepped up and is allowing Canada use of helicopters.
If you’ll remember, Canada said it’s out of there, unless a minimum of 1000 extra troops are provided, and access to surveillance drones and aircraft to transport troops around.
I don’t want Sarkozy to end up being the Euro-Bush, but I do want another ally in Europe for Britain when we send troops into hot zones. Yayyy for Sarkozy!
Stephen Harper (Canada’s Prime Minister) has said that Canada’s demands have been met and Canada will be staying until 2011 in Afghanistan. Check out the news story on CBC News. Awesome!
I still harbour tremendous animosity towards Spain, France, Germany and Italy for their cowardice in Afghanistan. As I’ve said before those bunch of pussies make me ashamed to be European. I emailed the German government yesterday and called them cowards. It’s obvious they’re worried about the image of German troops in battle will bring up memories of World War, but in my email I told them to get the fuck over it and stop being cowards.
On a last note… I completely believe that the Israeli Defence Force deliberately murdered a Canadian military observer in a U.N observation post because he was going to report that Israel was committing war crimes in Lebanon. You can check out the story on CBC.ca >>
As of now I have an intense dislike for Germans, Italians and Spaniards. Fucking pussy whipped countries sign up to NATO, and then wimp out when it comes to stepping up to the plate in Afghanistan. The Danes, Brits, Australians, Canadians and Americans are doing all the fucking work whilst those other three countries are keeping their soldiers far up north and refusing to put their fighting men in harm’s way to help out their allies.
I bet if the U.S cut off all diplomatic relations and trade ties with Germany, and pulled all of it’s military bases and personnel out of the country immediately, those fucking Germans would send 1000 troops to southern Afghanistan in two hours.
Who gives a fuck about what the people in those three countries want? Governments ignore the wishes of their citizens all the time when they have Intelligence Information that the general public doesn’t. Don’t those pricks realise if Canada leaves southern Afghanistan, Australia won’t be far behind… it won’t be long before the U.S throws up its hands and says ‘fuck it’, and withdraws all its troops too.
Then where would the Germans, Italians and Spaniards be? They’d come crying to NATO asking for help when they start getting Afghan trained suicide bombers blowing up their citizens by the hundreds. Kick the fucking bastards out of NATO, the EU, the U.N and cut off relations with those countries!
It’s safe to assume that Canada produces some of the best military snipers in the world. The Canadian forces are competent… on par with the Yanks, but not as good as the Brits yet. The problem is the value that Canada places upon its military. Here’s a news story I picked up from a newspaper which made me very pissed off with Rick Hillier.
A former Nova Scotia man who was turned down when he tried to join the Canadian air force has won the Distinguished Flying Cross for demonstrating “great courage and composure” while piloting a British military helicopter in Afghanistan.
Flight Lieutenant Christopher Hasler grew up in Bedford, near Halifax, and learned how to fly gliders and Cessnas with the local air cadet squadron.
After job-shadowing a Sea King helicopter pilot at 12 Wing Shearwater and graduating high school, he turned his eye to the sky with the hope of making a career out of flying military choppers.
“I applied out of high school to the Canadian Forces and didn’t get in, for whatever reason,” the 26-year-old said during a Christmas visit with his parents, who live in Ottawa.
“These things happen. So I went to university and still really wanted to fly. So I gave the Royal Air Force a call and then I was successful.”
After a relatively peaceful stint in Iraq in 2004, Hasler was sent to Afghanistan last summer for a two-month tour.
He was the captain of a Chinook on July 17 when he led a group of helicopters into Sangin, a Taliban stronghold where a soldier had been killed the day before while trying to secure the landing site.
The mission was to bring desperately needed supplies to British paratroopers.
The citation says that “he held his nerve while his troops were disembarking at the hottest of helicopter landing sites, allowing them to suppress enemy positions with minimum U.K. casualties.
Hasler, who did another two-month tour of Afghanistan in the fall is to return again early in the new year, plans to attend a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in the spring, when Queen Elizabeth II will present him with the DFC.
This makes me twice as mad because those in Canadian Forces Recruiting turned down my application because I’m not a Canadian citizen. HOW STUPID CAN THE TOFFS IN BUSINESS SUITS GET? The Canadians are bearing the brunt of the Taliban in the south of Afghanistan… Canadian soldiers are dying, yet they won’t send more soldiers or boost the national spending on defence.
Of course… Italy, France and Germany are still a bunch of pussy whipped bunch of pansies who are a disgrace to NATO, by keeping their sorry ass troops up north, and refusing to put them in danger down the south while Canada, Britain, Denmark and the U.S are taking all the crap.
As I long suspected… most European countries are still a bunch of wimpish pussies.
At the latest NATO meeting, apparently they all agreed to do more – but upon reading the website of the German government, they are still wimping out and not redeploying ANY troops to other parts of Afghanistan – Check out the story!
I bought three more books by Patrick Robinson – awesome writer. I love the Arnold Morgan character in his books. Too bad there isn’t a real life character like that. Mebbe there is, as I suppose they have to be loosely based upon someone – that’s usually the deal with inspiration for stories with authors and movie directors.
It’s getting extremely cold around here – other night it was -25 degrees. The Toyota Matrix I bought is proving to be a worthwhile investment. I went off the road on the reserve yesterday and came within about six inches of hitting a fire hydrant. I couldn’t back up onto the road – as my tyres are not very good. But at least the four-wheel drive allowed me to go further off the road in clean snow, turn around and make a run at it – which got me back onto the road.
Nicolas is sick. Got an ear infection. The Nurse Practitioner prescribed him Amoxycylin. Should clear it up quickly hopefully.
I’m putting into action the words I preach about hatred on the reserve… I’ve cause to not like a few people on the reserve, and whilst there’s a few people I’d rather not hang out with, I no longer hate anyone or want them dead. I came to the harsh realisation that it just isn’t achieving anything, and only serves to bring my health level down. So being polite and civil to people on the reserve that I used to not like, I think is going to help me tremendously. I don’t mind if those people still think I’m a bastard – that’s their prerogative, but I am going to go out of my way to be polite and accomodating.
My stepson has a Religious Education assignment about the Ten Commandments and the not killing part of it.
That part of Christianity makes me question if established religions are real. Think about it…
Supposedly God gives humans the ability to do bad stuff and kill, and then issues a set of rules to the contrary. In addition to that, the Bible says ‘an eye for an eye’. So if someone is trying to kill you are you supposed to die just so you can obey the Ten Commandments? That’s why organised religion makes me want to wretch.
On another note… I’m totally pissed off at Germany, Italy, France and Spain. They want to be a part of NATO, and enjoy all of it’s benefits but not assume any of the dangers. The mission in Afghanistan was approved by NATO – not just three members of it. There’s around 40,000 troops in Afghanistan and only around 18,000 are being used to fight the Taliban, warlords and opium growers. The fatalities and responsibility is being shouldered by Canada, Britain, the U.S and the Netherlands. Germany, Spain, France and Italy are all being a bunch of wimped out pussies – this whole ‘caveat’ deal is horsecrap.
There’s a bunch of restrictions called ‘caveats’ which allows soldiers of the respective countries to do things such as take part in combat operations, work in the snow, allow others to use their aircraft or, critically, redeploy some soldiers to the volatile south in the event of a great battle.
Germany’s excuse is it’s too aware of it’s Nazi past. We all appreciate that and applaud them for being wary of what happened before, but when they’re essentially being told that’s not an issue, using that as a crutch to shirk their responsibility is bogus. We all know Spain is a looney left liberal wimp-pot. France has the foreign legion which it can send in… a group of hardened foreign troops fighting for France. The French Foreign Legion was formed exactly for this sort of thing – fight the fights that the French public wouldn’t want their regular troops to do. France is wimping out and not using that option.
Canada is handling far more than it’s fair share in Afghanistan. IT SUCKS that those European countries are wimping out. I can’t imagine what those countries would do if they were invaded.
Three days ago after the woman went to play cards, I got a couple of my old Mp3 cd’s and cranked up the system. Nicolas and myself danced solidly from 8pm to 12pm and it was the most fun I’d had in five years. Nicolas was jumping up and down to each song that came on, with me copying him, and him playing the guitar with a plastic kids rake. His entire body from the waist up was bright red by the time the music had stopped.
I’d been on a bit of a downer again, so I figured I’d interact with Nicolas a little more than usual. It certainly worked because I was on a cloud for all of the next day. Science says endorphins are supposed to make you happy… dancing must release them because both my boy and I were having the time of our lives. I used to think dancing was pointless, and to some degree it is… but if you’re feeling blue, don’t be a pig and go out and eat – go and dance with a child. The glee in Nico’s smile was heartwarming.
Music’s got an extremely powerful effect on people – I know for sure with me. It can bring out a whole range of emotions. Some of the music I was playing made me wistfully remember my youth, and made me wish I was 13 again. I Think We’re Alone Now by Tiffany was one of them. Chain Reaction by Diana Ross was another… ahh the good old days.
I applied to join the Canadian military just for the hell of it. I’ll certainly get refused anyway. Too many of our boys are getting killed in Afghanistan. Too many times I’ve sat safely in Canada and bitched and whined about how it should be done. I don’t want to be known as one of those who shoots off at the mouth and doesn’t put it into action. Even though I knew I’d get refused, at least applying takes me out of that category.
Same ol’ shyt is still happening on the rez. No better, no worse. It’ll never change. I did have a good insight from one of the teen girls on the reserve about hatred between the families. It seems that a lot of young people think that certain families hate other families. Sorry to break it to everyone, but it just isn’t like that. Certain families just want to be left alone, without being talked about, or victimised in any way shape or form. There’s no hatred or secret agenda to stick it to other families on the rez. Hopefully one day Dalles will be a great place to live.
Remember what I was saying in the previous blog about people not having time? It’s absolutely true, and there isn’t anything anyone could say to make me change my mind. It stretches to all walks of life… most importantly something that is taking up a lot of my interest – war.
Regarding foreign troops in Iraq and Afghanistan… nobody wants to take the time to stick it out, and correct both major foulups. Nobody wants to take the time think up a viable and working military strategy… everybody wants to just cut and run. Fucking cowards!
Anyone who thinks troops should be pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan really need a lesson in maturity. Sitting safely on their soapboxes in North America and Europe, a lot of people talk about what should be done, but these people aren’t on the frontline, and have no firsthand knowledge about what’s best for the troops, and the residents of the invaded countries.
The majority of people in Canada were all for going into Afghanistan after the Taliban gave haven to Osama Bin Laden who killed loads of Canadians in the World Trade Centre. But now their enthusiasm has waned because the thing they supported didn’t turn out peachy and rosy. It’s not mature to invade a country and then flee when things don’t turn out the way its wanted.
