A man accused of being a guard at a Nazi death camp during World War II has finally lost his legal fight to stay in the United States.
John Demjanjuk, 88, migrated to the US in the 1950s. He was extradited to Israel and sentenced to death for war crimes, but the ruling was overturned.
He returned to the US but was accused of lying on Read more...
Was bored and was browsing the Ministry of Defence website. Came across this news article about a Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland.
This bloke was part of an escort with the Afghan National Army advancing towards a Taliban position. Some enemy fighter shot an RPG directly at him. It bounced off his body and detonated nearby.
Somebody’s looking out for that bloke – either that or he’s just plainly lucky.
For once I actually read a group email from a website… not really sure why this one. Obviously my sub-field of interest in human rights is Canada’s continual and every day abuse of native people’s human rights. According to the which was adopted by the U.N on the 14th of December, 1960 it constitutes a denial of fundamental human rights to subject a people to subjugation, domination and exploitation.
Could someone please tell me how Canada is NOT dominating First Nations people please? Now, I’m not stupid and know that all non-native people cannot simply just ‘leave’. I’m not sure most Native people are advocating that either.
It’s my opinion that most natives realise that non-natives will never be gone, and would rather have the Federal government grant First Nations people their basic human rights to full and complete self governance and determination.
Canada’s treatment of First Nation’s people is very similar to how the Chinese are treating the Tibetans. Lording it over them with superior numbers and firepower, and robbing them of their basic rights to determine their own destiny.
It’s time the world concentrated more on the human rights abuses committed daily all over the United States and Canada. There’s a native prophecy regarding ‘seven generations’. We are in the seventh generation now, and now is the time when North America’s indigenous youth will “rise up and fight for their inherent rights and re-affirm their sacred responsibility to protect Mother Earth“. Read more about Seven Generations Prophecy.
It’s important to protect the human rights of indigenous people because once a government realises history has forgotten or pushed these abuses under the rug permanently, there will be nothing to stop the government abusing other sorts of rights. It will start to see the lack of interest as historical permission to do what it likes.
The death of a Polish woman who almost certainly saved the lives of 2,500 Jewish children during World War II has been announced.
Irena Sendlerowa organised the rescue of the children from the Warsaw Ghetto during the Nazi occupation.
She died in a Warsaw hospital at the age of 98, her daughter said.
After Germany’s invasion of Poland in 1939, she took great risks to help Polish Jews held by the Nazis – an act that was punishable by death.
In 1942 Irena Sendlerowa joined the Zegota resistance movement.
With the rest of her team of 20, she rescued the children between 1940 and 1943, when the Nazis burned the ghetto, condemning its residents to death.
Saved from execution
In October 1943 she was arrested and tortured by the Gestapo, but refused to give up the names of the children.
She was saved on the day of her scheduled execution after the Polish underground bribed her SS guards.
She said persuading parents to part with their loved ones was particularly traumatic.
The children were smuggled out in different ways – in ambulances, through the sewers, and once under her skirt.
The BBC’s Adam Easton in Warsaw says Irena Sendlerowa hated the term “hero”, and said her conscience was troubled because she had done so little.
Last year the Polish parliament unanimously passed a resolution honouring her for organising the “rescue of the most defenceless victims of the Nazi ideology: the Jewish children”.
In recognition of her efforts she has also been awarded the title Righteous Among the Nations, by Israel.
Hey folks… yes I know it’s been a while since I’ve blogged. Most of that is due to the fact I’ve been trying to focus my website more on native news. Needless to say work has been very hectic and busy.
I recently made another purchase from Amazon.co.uk – I bought Series 1 – 6 of ‘The Bill’. Series 1-3 arrived about two weeks later. As with Judge John Deed, I have to burn the dvd before I can watch it. It’s quite weird watching the oldest episodes… it brings back so many memories. As with most things from England, it sort’ve reminds me of what ‘Britishness’ is like. Always did like Sergeant Cryer’s character. Reg Hollis has always been a favourite. Was kind’ve funny to see Carver’s character brand new… bowling down the road.
I also recently remembered a favourite song of mine; ‘She’s Got That Vibe’ by R. Kelly.
Got my taxes back and paid off my credit card and paid my son back.
Lost a friend due to her predjudice views about black people, and gained two more. People are still talking about who I hang around with. The friend I lost doesn’t want to talk to me anymore because I didn’t want her to bring her baby (who she knows I love) to a powwow because she wouldn’t be able to relax and have fun. I told her I’d much prefer just me and her go alone tomorrow – I even offered to pay the baby’s dad to come from Thunder Bay to look after the baby so we could… she took it the wrong way and now doesn’t want to talk anymore. Que sera!
One of my friends who’s practicing for her G1 Exit Test has been driving my car. It’s quite weird because she’s literally the first person to drive my car and have me completely relaxed. She’s actually a very safe and good driver. She drove to Shoal Lake today.
The powwow sucked and was near dead. Was mealtime or dinner or break or whatever… but it was indoor so it would have sucked anyway. I did buy a Northern Wind cd though which was alright.
I’ve found out that I like being around people who smile a lot.
The last known survivor of a group of German army officers who tried to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944 has died aged 90, his family says.
Philipp von Boeselager provided the explosives used to pack a briefcase planted under a table in the Nazi leader’s East Prussia headquarters.
But the briefcase was moved behind one of the oak table’s wooden legs, and Hitler escaped with only slight wounds.
Most of the plotters were executed, but Mr Von Boeselager escaped detection.
Among those executed – just hours after the assassination attempt – was Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, who planted the briefcase and after whom the plot was named.
Mr Von Boeselager died overnight on Thursday, his family said.
I took a ride out to Whitefish Bay First Nation rez with a couple of friends because I was bored as hell. Haven’t done any rez cruising in a long time… it was fun. Walking around doing nothing, driving around doing nothing… gotta do more of it. Ryan’s Rez Tours. The Ojibway name of Whitefish Bay is Naotkamegwanning.
