Will white people ever get it?

There’s a phrase many white people haven’t heard of called white privilege.

In summary white privilege is the advantages enjoyed by caucasian people beyond that which is commonly experienced by non-caucasian people in those same social, political, and economic spaces (nation, community, workplace, income, etc.). It differs from racism or prejudice in that a person benefiting from white privilege does not necessarily hold racist beliefs or prejudices themselves and can be, as is often the case, unaware of his or her privilege.

I tried to explain to someone I know that the media, police and judiciary are all prejudice and some out right racist.  Explaining to this person that white people get treated differently by the media, police and judiciary was greeted with the reply ‘yeah everyone’s out to get you right‘.

My sister tried explaining to me for years about how the Metropolitan Police are a racist institution and how a lot of times their prejudice and racism isn’t immediately apparent to those who haven’t been a victim of theirs.  I didn’t believe her for many years until a recent incident close to home, and of course the previous national incident with Tariq Ghaffur.
