I’m sure everyone knows that I now have my next car. It’s a 2003 AWD Toyota Matrix. It’s white, and is in immaculate condition with 47,000KM when I bought it.
For those who don’t know… All Wheel Drive means that the four-wheel drive is controlled automatically by the onboard computer – if the back wheels are spinning at a greater rate than the front wheels, the 4×4 kicks in automatically. Jolly good eh?
I bought one of those cheap $16 car vacuum cleaners and use that everyday, and I wipe down the insides once a day. This car WILL be kept in top shape no matter what it costs. It MUST last me at least five years. Bearing in mind the extensive research into car models and manufacturers, I’ve complete confidence that all Japanese brands are AWESOME… not like the other north american crap being sold to millions across the world.
Lorraine’s feeling more and more pregnant every day. I’m scared of having another child for obvious reasons… nervous… and elated all at the same time.
My ultimate goal in the area of careers seems to be changing – the options I want are below.
I’m having serious internal conflict and issues about the fact that I am none of the above. DAMN IT ALL!
On a great note… there’s a movie being shot in Kenora. The production company are renting space in our office… the movie’s called ‘Juliana and the Medicine Fish‘, with Jessica Amlee, Rob Schneider, Gordon Tootoosis and Alex Rice. I’ve been foozing Jessica and it’s just awesome. I can officially add that I’ve foozed a movie star. BTW – Jessy’s 12yrs old hahahaha!
Nicolas is getting scratched, bitten and pinched by one of his cousins which I’m not happy about at all. If it doesn’t stop, a few words in the cousin’s mother’s ear will be happening for sure!
This blog was inspired by a debate with my buddy Michael N, (who is real shallow minded and thinks ALL of my opinions are full of crap) – and the whole point of this blog is summed up in the following line:
“When it comes to nutcases and the rest of us, there isn’t really much difference between a fool who goes on a killing spree, and anyone else.”
There are tens of millions of people who hate feminists, or who hate Jehovah’s Witness pestering on a Sunday morning, or who hate drug addicts or whatever. There are millions who would definitely like to shoot them all and rid the rest of us of whatever problem they don’t like.
The human race is not designed to all have one way of thinking, and one way of acting – that’s what makes each of us unique, and the human race unique. It will NEVER change. People will always think things like this and the sooner people come to terms with the fact that the whole psychos vs. normal people debate is just another way for people to look down upon others, the better.
That’s what seperates normal people from psychos – the ability to keep our impulses and urges in check, and NOT to act upon them. It’s perfectly normal to have urges of whatever kind, whether it’s desecrating graves of war criminals or shooting dead people at random because you think you’re on a mission from the Almighty.
The sooner people realise it IS normal to have these kind of thoughts, then the sooner the world can begin to educate itself to find a way out of mass killings in schools at places like Dunblane, Scotland, or Columbine, Colorado.
People are only too quick to dismiss this line of thought, but maybe that’s part of the problem too?
Colonisation in general has always been a favourite topic of mine. It’s happened on every continent in the world, and close to every single country in the world where the people are predominantly white.
Whilst I abhor colonisation for the effects of it, I truly believe it is meant to happen. I’m not sufficiently educated in philosophy to try and work out why.
For me at least, the issue is not so much with colonisation in general… rather the way it is done. The stealing of the Americas, and Australasia could have happened in a much gentler and less violent way. There’s never been any valid excuse for the blankets handed out with smallpox in the U.S… or any valid excuse for the chemical experiments upon Indigenous children in Nanaimo Indian School in British Columbia… or any valid excuse for the residential school systems in the U.S, Canada and Australia.
How can any civilised person look at how Indigenous people lived before the expansion of caucasian people across the globe, and how they’re living now, and not think compensation is justified?
It makes me sick to my stomach when I see the full extent of racial predjudice in Canada. The sheer amount of caucasian people in Canada with resentment or outright hatred of Indigenous people, black people, and asian people is sickening. Correct me if I’m wrong (with proof of course)… but it seems like at least 80% of white people in Canada either have ‘issues’ with non-white people in Canada or straight out don’t like other races.
Then you’ll get these fools who refuse to understand why Indigenous people are in some of the situations now. It bothers me that the Federal Government of KKKanada aren’t spending hundreds of millions of dollars in drives for racial harmony and education.
It bothers me even more when you have non-aboriginal people whining about having to pay certain taxes and aboriginal people not… or having to pay for medication and aboriginals not having to. What most people don’t realise is that life is a sloping playing field – in order for all to be equal, the ones on the lower end must be pushed onto the same level as the ones on the higher end. All these various little privileges that Indigenous people have are there because Indigenous people have so many other areas in which they’re far behind everyone else.
I’m an non-indigenous person in Canada with only four years here. I don’t resent paying taxes to give natives a better education. I don’t whisper under my breath when a Native person in the checkout line pulls out a status card and gets to pay less. Why can’t everyone try to understand what it’s really like to be black, or native, or asian?
It’s quite obvious that only the colonised would understand the full effects of colonisation on indigenous people. It’s also quite obvious that colonisation was and is a very bad thing.
It’s also become quite obvious to me that there are always going to be dumbass shitbags like Gary who love to stir up shit when a group of oppressed people are rightfully protesting the governments theft of land. I hope someone takes a bat to his head when there’s no OPP around.
Race relations are never going to be healed in this country, because the federal government and non-native people have too much to lose. If natives had what they were entitled to, they’d own half of the economy.
Across the world, Canada has a reputation for being one of the most religiously, culturally and racially accepting country in the world. But when you get on the inside, you see things in history like the Chinese head tax, the internments, the genocide of about 75million natives over 400 years, and murder in places like Nanaimo Indian School and realise that Canada’s never going to become the melting pot it proclaims to be.
What about the war criminals that this country let in after WW2? Or after the Serbian rampage throughout the Balkans? Or what about the murderers coming in from Rwanda?
It’s shameful, and every non-aboriginal Canadian should be ashamed to be a part of a country that has committed some of these heinous crimes against humanity.
Only by fixing race relations with the first people of this land, and then apologising and paying adequate compensation for the past will Canada start to become the place I want it to be.
